The medicines we support in safe, ceremonial/therapeutic/clinical settings:

  • Psilocybin: Found in certain species of mushrooms, psilocybin is a classic psychedelic that interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain. Research has shown promising results in treating conditions like treatment-resistant depression and anxiety, particularly in people with life-threatening illnesses. The effects often include altered perceptions and can lead to a sense of well-being and improved quality of life. The FDA has granted psilocybin "breakthrough therapy" status for major depressive disorder.

  • MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine): Often referred to as a non-classic psychedelic, MDMA is an empathogen-entactogen that increases social engagement, empathy, and feelings of closeness. It is being extensively researched for its use in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). MDMA-assisted therapy aims to help patients process traumatic memories with less fear and anxiety, as the drug can reduce activity in the amygdala, the brain's fear center. The FDA has granted it "breakthrough therapy" status for PTSD.

  • Ketamine: An anesthetic that is also a dissociative drug, ketamine is used in clinical settings for its rapid antidepressant effects. Unlike classic psychedelics, it works by antagonizing the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Ketamine is administered in low doses and can produce a dissociative state. It has been shown to be effective for treatment-resistant depression and suicidal ideation, though its effects may be short-lived compared to other psychedelics.

  • Other substances: Other psychedelics being studied for their therapeutic properties include:

    • Ayahuasca: A traditional South American brew containing the psychedelic compound DMT, which is being explored for its potential to treat addiction and depression.

    • DMT (Dimethyltryptamine, 5-MEO-DMT): A powerful but short-acting psychedelic found in some plants and animals, also available synthetically (5-MEO-DMT).

    • Mescaline: A naturally occurring compound found in certain cacti, such as peyote, which has been used for thousands of years in spiritual and healing rituals.

The use of these substances in a therapeutic/ceremonial/medicinal setting is a highly structured process, involving a team of trained therapists/staff who guide and support the participant before, during, and after the psychedelic experience.
